This project was an exercise in redesigning an existing user interface to improve its functionality and visual appeal. Capital/Data is a subscription-only finance and banking site. It also provides data about a large number of companies in the United States with respect to their financial solidity and provides credit reports for these companies. Among other tasks, a user in a credit department might want to establish on-going monitoring of companies that they deal with repeatedly such that they will know when or if there is a change in the solidity of one of these companies.
Redesign the Company Monitoring Preferences screen (desktop and mobile) to improve the customer experience.
The following user insights were gathered:
The text prompts in the dialog box were confusing
Users were unsure if their preferences had been saved
Some users commented that the design was unappealing and outdated, which led them to question the trustworthiness of the service.
Based on the user insights, the following changes are suggested.
Rewrite copy - the terminology was repetitive and confusing. The new text will be simplified and will accurately describe the possible options.
Confirmation page - a new screen will be added after the preferences screen to alert the user that their preferences have been saved.
Update visual design - the visual design will be updated to add color and hierarchy and will be in line with the Capital/Data brand.
The design principals for this project were trustworthy, clear and modern.
This project showed how small design updates can make a big difference for a customer’s experience. Also that even non design focused industries, such as banking, can benefit from modern and up to date visuals. Furthermore, there is so much competition in the finance sector that intuitive and attractive UI can truly set a company apart.
