Overview & business goals
Lerna is a an e-learning startup with a structure that incentivizes learning: users receive money back for completed coursework.
Working in a lean environment, I designed the UI for the interactive prototype that was shown to investors and together with the Lerna team, the result was an initial stage of funding.
At the time I was brought on they had previously conducted market research and had worked through a competitive analysis. These materials were handed to me and created the starting point for my work.
Role: UI Designer (Freelance)
Duration: 4 months
Based on audience research conducted by the Lerna team I created three personas to ensure that the users were front and center.
Ideation & collaboration
The founder of the company had a strong vision for her learning platform and we worked through sketches together in the initial stages of the project.
core USER FLOWS
I mapped out two core user flows: New Student User Sign Up and Course Purchase.
Brand Identity and Visual Design
The logo consists of multiple color gradients which guided my color choices. The platform aims to empower its users and is driven by positivity and progress. The bright color palette reflects this ethos.
The final stage was to create the interactive Invision prototype - it can be viewed here.
The prototype was shown to investors and funding was offered to the Lerna team. Working on this project was extremely rewarding as the vision of company is focused on education and empowerment. Through the project I gained first hand experience of working in a lean environment. I also experienced working through the team’s preconceptions about the role of UI vs. UX and worked collaboratively to determine the required deliverables.
